Tasmania has accelerated a multi-year hydro asset modernisation program aimed at improving flexibility and dispatch precision during peak mainland demand periods.
Upgrades include turbine refurbishment, digital governor replacements and control room optimisation for faster response to market conditions.
Energy analysts said modernised hydro is becoming increasingly valuable as a firming resource alongside variable wind and solar generation.
The improved performance is also expected to strengthen confidence in interconnector-supported trading between Tasmania and the mainland.
