Queensland has announced a major clean manufacturing precinct near Gladstone focused on solar modules, mounting systems and power electronics. The project aims to shorten lead times for domestic renewable builds and improve resilience against global supply disruptions.
Developers involved in utility-scale projects said local procurement could reduce transport costs and simplify replacement part logistics, especially for regional projects.
The state government said the precinct will include workforce training partnerships with TAFE providers and regional universities to build specialist skills in electrical testing and advanced manufacturing.
Construction is expected to begin later this year, with first-stage production lines targeted to open in 2027.
